29th FEBRUARY 2008

Today, i went with mummy to the hospital again. I spoke to the doctor for awhile and I was so devastated when doctor told me that there is no complete cure for alzheimer's disease.

Mum, are you not going to be well anymore?

Right now, the doctor is suggesting medication for her. But the medication fees are so expensive! Nevertheless, she is my mother and even if i have to work my guts out to pay for the medicine, i will. What is holding me back is the effectiveness of the medicine. I heard from the doctor that while medications may reduce the severity of Alzheimer's symptoms (thinking/memory problems and personality changes) they will not completely eliminate the symptoms nor will they prevent the disease from progressing. He even told me that after taking the medicine for long they may even stop working! So what will mum be taking the medicine for? For initial progress that will eventually cease to work? I'm really so confused. However, I have to be responsible for mums healthcare.. and for now i have decided to commence with the medication. We'll see how it goes after that...
